How do I keep my community friendly when anyone can join?

Keep your community open to everyone and still keep it friendly. Community Guard reads each member's post or comment the moment they press Post. Most go straight up. Anything that goes against your guidelines waits for you to decide.

Updated 4 October 2026

Nothing a member writes is ever deleted by Community Guard. It only waits for you, and a rejected post can be undone on the post.
  1. Switch on Community Guard

Open Community, then Settings, and find Posting. Set Community Guard to On, then press Save. Your own posts and comments are never checked.

  2. Read your guidelines

Maya writes four to six short rules from your community description. Read them, then press Looks right. Until you do, Community Guard uses a standard set: be kind, no spam, no selling to members, stay on topic.

  3. Change the rules any time

Press Edit, put one rule on each line in your own words, and save. Say what is welcome too, for example that members may share links to what they have built.

Edit opens your rules in your own words.

  4. Know what a member sees

If a post or comment goes against your guidelines, it does not go up. The member is told at once, with one sentence on why, and that you will take a look. Only they can see it, and they can change it. If their changed words are fine, it goes up by itself. A line added to a list, a list's question, or a poll added to a post that is already up, that goes against your guidelines is not added, and the member is told why.

  5. Decide what is waiting for you

Held posts and comments appear on your Community dashboard under Waiting for you, each with the reason. Press Approve and publish to let it in, Reject to remove it, or Reject and suspend if the person should not post again. We email you when something is waiting, once an hour at most.

Can I read what members post before it goes up?

Can I approve new members before they get into my community?

Yes. Switch on approval and anyone who asks to join waits in a Requests list in Members until you let them in, the way a private LinkedIn or Facebook group works. People you invite, and people who pay, still go straight in. About five minutes to set up.

Can I check comments before they go up?

Turn on comment approval and every member comment waits for you. It's a separate switch from the one for posts.

Can I keep my community hidden until I'm ready to launch?

Your community goes live once it is made and your email is confirmed, and there is no switch that takes it offline. Two settings work together instead: one keeps your posts from anyone who isn't a member, the other means nobody gets in until you let them.
