What channels and opening posts did Maya set up, and how do I change them?
Your channels are already named, from what you said your community is for. Here's where to find them, what you can change, and where the posts live.

Open Welcome, then the Channels tab
It sits between Navigation and Images. The channels there are specific to your community: a room for newly promoted managers gets Introductions, The hard conversations, Wins and Resources.

Named from what you said your community is for, not off a list.
Take me thereRename, delete, or add a channel
Rename and Delete sit beside every channel, with Add a channel under the list. One name is fixed: #general can't be removed, because it's where a post goes when nobody picks anywhere else.

Rename is safe. Add your own. #general is the one that stays.
Take me thereOpen Feed to see every post
Community, then Feed, lists every post, yours and your members'. Pin puts one at the top for everybody; Delete hides it from the feed. If your own count is zero, your first post may be waiting in your plan.

Every post, yours and theirs. Pin puts one at the top for everybody.

Can I check comments before they go up?
Turn on comment approval and every member comment waits for you. It's a separate switch from the one for posts.
Can I message one member privately, and can members message each other?
Message one member from Community, then Members. Their reply comes back to that screen, not your email. Members messaging each other is a separate setting.
Can I read what members post before it goes up?
Yes — one setting. Off, member posts appear at once. On, nothing appears until you've read it. The waiting ones don't sit in the Feed.
